Executive publishes book on balancing career, family

Habari za Dharura

Dar es Salaam. Tanzanian energy-sector executive Marsha Msuya Kilewo has published a book exploring leadership, motherhood, faith and the challenge of pursuing professional success without losing one’s identity.

Titled The Table Got Bigger, the book draws on her experiences in corporate leadership to examine how professionals can balance career ambitions with family responsibilities, personal values and a sense of purpose.

Ms Kilewo, an Advocate with more than 15 years of experience in multinational companies, has worked across law, corporate affairs, human resources, procurement, logistics, commercial operations and regional business leadership.

Her experience includes contributing to petroleum supply and optimisation across East Africa, where efficient logistics, reliable supply, governance and commercial decisions are central to business performance.

Through personal reflections, she challenges the notion that professional success requires women to sacrifice important aspects of their identities, arguing instead for a broader understanding of achievement that includes relationships, personal growth and purpose.

The book also examines the responsibility that comes with leadership and influence.

Its title reflects the idea that leadership should go beyond securing a position or gaining access to decision-making spaces. It should also involve creating opportunities for others to participate and succeed.

Ms Kilewo encourages readers to consider how they can use their positions to support others while remaining grounded in their values.

The book is aimed at emerging professionals, established leaders, women balancing careers and family responsibilities, and others seeking to navigate professional growth while maintaining meaningful personal relationships.

The book launch, held in Dar es Salaam over the weekend, brought together professionals, family members, friends and invited guests for discussions on leadership and personal development.

Through the publication, Ms Kilewo hopes to encourage more open conversations about the realities of leadership and the importance of using professional success to create opportunities for others.

Her central message is that growth becomes more meaningful when it allows others to advance as well.
